Honda's have a bad rep for the cv's going bad, and the "new" rebuilds being manufactured absolutely perfect...about half the time.
Try pushing up and down on the cv, there should be no play but it should move in and out smoothly. Is the noise louder on curves(outer joints definitly) or accelerating/deccelerating? Sometimes the problem only happens at load from a wear pattern.

Take it out of gear and coast. This isolates and removes the transmission input shaft, clutch, and the engine out the source of the problem.
Only thing left is the transaxle, cv's and hub assembly.

Check your clutch holding power by putting it in 5th gear at 35 mph and stomping on it. Rpms should match speed.
Probably a bum cv, take it back.
