I used a pipe wrench. Any of the above mentioned will work as well if you dont have a pipe wrench, and as long as you've got something large enough. As any good woman will tell you, the right size tool makes all the difference.
One pointer, before you remove the insert, make sure you put a piece of wire around the strut housing and tie it off to the brake line RETAINER, not the nice pretty stainless lines in your pic.
