			my guess would be that the hot start issues are due to a lean condition.  sorry if i came off sounding like an ass.  i did realize you were told it was "pre-programmed".  If it is a MAF from PMAS (which more than likely it is), it would have been pre-programmed for a 944 turbo.  PMAS is the company that Lindsey Racing and Vitesse Racing buy their MAFs.  Low end should be exactly the same for a 944 and 951.  The only changes would be when the turbo starts to spool up, you'll need more air and since it was probably programmed for a 951 it is giving you a really lean situation.  
 Don't give up on the project.  I'm working on a MAF conversion for my 944S.  I'm using a Lindsey Racing ST1 MAF.  Which is an 85mm MAF meter from PMAS.  But, I will be using a chip that will have an AFM to MAF transfer function written into it.  But their will be tuning to get the chip perfect. But it'll be worth it in the end.
