I'll disagree with you on the Rainex. I use it on all of my cars and swear by it. I can run at 70MPH in heavy rain without my wipers or just on intermittent settings.
I always use a clean cloth on the windows after two applications of it. I don't get the swirl marks that you mentioned since starting that process.
I also use my orbital buffer on the windows after waxing my cars.

I tried the inside, no-fog stuff but didn't find it to be much good. I don't smoke but the plastic still gives off vapors that will leave a film on the inside windows.
I'm mid of a freak about clean glass on my cars. Even if the paint is dirty, the windows will be clean.
