Ball joints - good idea. However, there really is slop in the right hand side of the rack. If I turn the steering wheel left about 3/4 of the way to full lock (extend the rack out to the right) and grab the tie rod, I can watch the rack (the boot is pulled away) move noticeably in the rack housing. Not in and out - circularly like a pencil in a water glass. The inner tie rod end is not moving (no slop) but the rack is acting like a bushing is bad.
As for the sway bar, the bushing is dry, clean, and 6 months old. Been there, done that, have scars.

Anyway, I'm beginning to think that the solution is.....
rebuilt rack, tie rods, ends, ball joints, A-Arm bushings yada yada.....
