I am about to embark on a 3.2l to 3.5l build. I will be using uprated steel rods, but would like to know which ones are best out of the regular suspects, Carrillo, Pauter and Pankl.
I have read the famous rod thread, but people became too emotional, and the info was lost. No offense guys.
Any ideas on cost of the Pankl rods, and where are they available from.
Are there any specs available on the above mentioned rods, with regards to strength, and rated RPM. I know the rpm is based on piston weight, but would like to have an idea of strength.
A lot of these type of motors have failed here in RSA, but possibly due to over rev.
Are these motors as strong as any other configuration, using a 3.2 as a base motor.
Thanks in advance.

Hi:
We've used both Carrillo & Pauter rods for a long time and I consider both of them to be excellent and comparable products able to withstand major-league overrevs without distress. We use both in our builds depending on availability. Its easier to get longer versions of Pauter's at short notice.
Pankl's are made in Austria and can be purchased directly from them: excellent product.
If you anticipate extended operation over 7300 RPM, there are a host of oiling modifications that should be done.
Remember, its rare that a rod actually fails; most are due to insufficient oiling to the rod bearings and the subsequent seizure that tears everything apart.
