87 Carrera Smoke

I purchsed this car in October 2003 with 130,000 miles. I drove it fron San Fracisco to Dallas and the motor consumed maybe a quart and a half of oil in 1,800 miles. The PO had some service done which included a compression check and most of the cylinders were around 165 psi if I remember correctly.

The motor never smokes on start-up, even if I leave it for several months. I can rev the motor up and down and no smoke will come out of the exhaust. I've never seen any smoke out of the rear view mirror, even at night with cars behind me. The motor does not leak any oil on the garage floor.

Since I purchased the car, I get intermitten smoke at stop signs and stop lights. The car now has slightly over 140,000. I need to get someone to follow me to make sure it is coming from the exhaust but I'm pretty sure it is. The car has not been modified in any way and is in unbelievable condition for the mileage, so I don't believe it has been abused. I fill the oil to the middle of the dip stick. Seems to have gotten worse since I cahnged from 20-50 GTX to Rotella 15-40.

Is this a classic symptom of valve guides or seals going out? Seems like it would puff on start-up. Is there anything I'm missing?
