Hmm, I didn't realize our cars had lights to let us know we were low on fuel. I can say I've NEVER run out of gas, although my wife has... I make it a habit to fill up as soon as my gauge drops below the quarter mark. Heck, it's a 23 year old car - I'm not going to trust that the gauge is correct or not. I don't like to be stranded - period.

You're right though. I did have a pretty good chuckle. My timing belt jumped a few teeth on my Mk2 Golf many, many years ago. It happened on an early Sunday morning, and I too, had on dress pants and leather bottom shoes. It happened to be one of the coldest days of the year too. It was tough to push it into a parking lot (over a slight crest, of course). It's been long enough where there were still pay phones around and cell phones were not widely used (except for the 'bag phones').
