It's not the level sender; at least in my car that lights a separate light on the dash. And in any case I'm maybe 1/2 pint lower than the full mark, about 1/4 of the way down from the "full" hash mark on the dipstick. (it does leak like a sieve, even with all new front seals, but I keep an eye on it. I run 5W40 Rotella synthetic for what it's worth.)
