Hot is not good. Is the negative side warm as well? Have you cleaned the terminal, post and all the wiring connected to the terminal?

Wonder if you do not have some corrosion somewhere around or inside where the battery terminal is and is generating heat. Take the terminal off and make sure that you have a good metal to metal contact area, and if its not a factory terminal check where the wires are secured and clean under where they attach. The place where the wires contact the terminal should be nice and shiny copper and if its not then make it so.

If you do not find anything at first you might check under the rubber insulation on the cables. I have seen them start to "bubble" due to corrosion inside and then its time to replace the cables.

Just a question, but what led you to see if they were warm in the first place? Problems in other areas? Never checked to see if mine are warm and not planning on doing so... every time I work with a battery I usually ruin a pair of jeans or shirt!
