Encouragement, please!
From what I've learned in these past 10 months of immersion in this supportive community, there comes a point in many of these journeys that you basically need a supportive word or two to get you back on the horse of progress. Have gotten the new leather GAHH seat covers installed by our local upholsterer. Very pleased with the results! In the mean time my son and I have been preparing to install the new GAHH sliverknit carpet set (ordered through the local shop along with the seat covers because I wasn't up to the challenge of installing the leather....our host is still my primary contractor on the overall balance sheet on this project!).
In getting ready for the carpet, we're painting a number of the vinyl trim pieces, going from cork to black. Upholstery shop recommended Dupli-Color Vinyl Paint. Started out with flat black on the rear sill cover and side walls. Pleased with the nice satin patina that resulted. The same prep and flat black paint on the front door upper "sills" and lower side column vinyl has resulted in a much rougher, splotchy surface. Experimenting with an interim plastic sealer coat and switching to a gloss vinyl black with mixed results.
You can see from the background that we're also in the midst of a major basement renovation project prompted by a buckling wall that required gutting the finished paneling, drywall, ceiling tile and carpet and structural reinforcement of a 40 foot wall. So I guess a minor paint problem is the least of my worries! At least the steering wheel recover project went well.
I knew this wasn't going to be a walk in the park and that compared to what many of you tackle here, this is far from a herculean task, but still the potholes can be discouraging! I guess it's time for a quick Pelican progress post and a pint of Guiness. Again, probably no advice needed here other than some convincing that the light at the end of the tunnel is the daylight of a nice summer drive and not a 4-6-4 Hudson headed our way under full steam.
Thanks.
Mike
