One technique of the dent puller trade is to glue on a small stud then lightly pull it with a slide hammer. The glue is then removed with a chemical. If you pull it out too far, you simply tap it back down. I have watched a guy do hundreds of dents (hail) on a body panel without 'pushing' out the dents from the back side which is the standard method.
Be careful removing dents on resprayed panels where the adhesion may not be as good as the factory paint.
