These laws exist because the insurance industry demands them, and their bought and paid for cronies on capital hill force this shiit down our throats.
Seatbelt laws have nothing to do with keeping us safe, and neither do anti-smoking laws. They're about appeasing the insurance industry, and paying for pet political projects.
