If you had to smack the DME relay to get your car started then it may be time to replace the relay

Increased resistance due to an old relay may be a reason for a hot DME relay. I did notice this weekend that my ABS relay was quite hot and its not to far away from the DME, also the right fender can get quite hot with the oil cooler and oil lines nearby.

*** UPDATED - I drove my C4 tonight for about 20 min and the DME relay did get quite hot but not enough to be concerned about ***
