After trying a number of solutions to fix an idle problem on my 3.2, I am pleased to say it is finally resolved.
The problems were:
1. Sometimes the engine would cut out when cold, returning to idle.
2. Inconsistent (hunting) idle when warm.
3. Various idle speeds between 600 and 1200rpm.
Many things have been tried to rectify the issues but today ******** Hamilton's in Sydney found a faulty idle microswitch.
The switch fails about 1 in 15 activations - hence why it wasn't spotted sooner. Grant suggests he has replaced 2 in the past 10 years.
Additionally, the mixture was too rich and one of the ball joints in the throttle linkage was stuck causing the occasional sticky throttle.
I hope this helps some of the others who have experienced similar problems.
