Secondly, regarding the cat code plug which as far as I can tell selects the map on the EPROM to use, I have read here that the R1100S EPROM has no difference in any cat code setting because all 8 maps on the chip are identical. If this is the case, then where does the "default" richer map come from when the O2 sensor is pulled? I did find a reasonable explanation of the Motronic on the IBMWR, here it is:

Lastly, if the cat code plugs differentiate between 8 programs, and the R1100S has 8 identical maps, it seems that you ought to be able to have a modified program, written alongside the stocker, and select between them like the cat code plugs works for the BBPower unit.
Any takers on this one?

When you buy a chip, you are not paying for the chip as much as you are the tuning, distribution and retail of it. In theory the stock chip could be re-mapped, but you'll be hunting to find someone capable of re-writing the codes necessary and then have dyno tuning time which would equate to $750-1000 as a rough guess assuming the chip's memory is re-writeable. So yes it could be done, but more drama then its worth to accomplish.
