Red face Talk Dirty To Me--transmissions

I was reading an article regarding "944 bearing noise in manual tranny". My car makes the same sound. Engine running, vehicle stationary, gearbox in neutral and clutch engaged. When I dis-engage the clutch I get a worn bearing, chattering sound--and it's intermittent. There are so many possible bearings-torque tube or input shaft bearings, and all the bearings in the gearbox. My question is-Do I get a rebuilt gearbox or replace the bearings and syncros/dog teeth in the one I have. Which is cheaper? Can't find any info on the net regarding rebuilt trannys. Please no guesses. 87 944 127K. The article was found in 911&Porsche World, Number 91, page 116.
