Michael,

I bought a very similar car in April 2006 for $21,250. It had 29,900 on it at the time I purchased it and had been garaged its entire life. I bought it from the first owner who lived in the Washington DC metro area.

Used Boxsters are fairly plentiful in the DC area so that might depress prices relative to those in Minneapolis.

At the time I bought the car, the private party sales values in the major pricing services were:

Edmunds: $21,545
Kelley: $23,835
NADA: $24,200
Consumer Reports: $24,500 (Average of trade in and dealer sale prices.)

So, I consider the Edmunds guide the most accurate - if I'm buying. If I were selling, I would use NADA and show that to a potential buyer. Edmunds says the car is now worth $19,524 with 42,000 miles. So, I think somewhere in the neighborhood of $19,000 is reasonable for your car.

The guy who sold me my car had obtained an estimate at Carmax. He accidentally left it with the paper work he gave me. They were offering him $20,500. So I might have overpaid a little.
