That is interesting because the last Purolator I got from Pep Boys, 2 1/2 yrs. ago had a four or five digit number, was painted matte black, and said 'made in germany' on it. The current Purolator is of domestic manufacture. The Mahle I have in front of me, # OC 54 has no anti drain valve visible. Incidently, the filter from the local Porsche Dealer is also made in America, looks to be a standard Purolator, box is labeled as a standard Porsche part.
