I had a small oil leak, and I thought that it was coming from the exact area that you describe.....then it turned into a HUGE oil leak and I could tell where it was really coming from....under the fan housing. The oil cooler had come loose. The oil cooler is inside the fan housing, behind the sending unit. Check to see if it is wet between the sending unit and fan housing.
If your oil cooler is loose or cracked (not likely), the leak will get worse. Don't take any long trips.
