I have a little play in mine, but pedal is good otherwise. A little play seems fine in these cars.

When was the clutch replaced last? It might be well worn.

You might check into the hydraulic clutch slave cyclinder maybe it leaks or is loosing pressure, so when you push the clutch it's not engage/disengaging properly.
