Absolutely, positively do not even think about buying one of these cars without a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a known expert. Period. You've been warned. In a few weeks I will perform surgery on my excellent-condition SC motor because it has a (surprise) broken head stud that I would not be dealing with had I insisted on a PPI. It will cost me a minimum of $1500 and I will do all the labor myself except machine work.
That being said, I very much prefer a lesser car that is in better condition, over a 'better' car that is in poorer condition. Since I am not convinced that the Carrera is a substantially "better" car than the SC, I suspect the SC is the best deal. And older 911 can nickle-and-dime you to death.
And I'm a coupe man.
