if not a generator at least get an inverter. 400 watts will run lights, fans, stereos, TV. I usually rent several movies before the hurricane to watch until it blows over. hooked to your car you can get at least 8 hours power before battery goes down. just crank the car every couple hours to recharge before that point. I have 400, 600 and 1000 watt inverters. cheapest is about $30. we're usually the only ones on the block with lights and music during the storm. actually.. we're usually the only ones on the block. everyone leaves for some reason. 150+mph winds are pretty good entertainment sitting on the porch watching trees fall and roofs fly off.
