My family has gone several times to Boca Chica(south coast) and Puerto Plata(north coast). Always had a great time. Breugal Rum is another fine local rum and el Presidente is the local brew. The locals in my experience are very nice people and have always been accomodating. Like FlatButt says, do not drink the water(don't even brush your teeth with it!) and the only pure ice cubes have a hole(I don't remember-too much Cuba Libre!)or a uniform bubble in the middle(never cracked ice)- or you will be sorry for days(pack the imodium). My last advice-in the casino do not play pota de oro! most crooked game in the place! A gal in my office just came back from Punta Cana and said she would go back, had a great time.
