I'm not sure how you went about this job, but I have a '95 993 in my early car. I replaced the wires, reusing the ends. I would recommend doing a partial engine drop and then removing the intake manifold. From there, the job is straightforward. I think it is an hour on each to remove and install the intake plumbing.
I use a bit of silicon lube to fit the new wires through the o-rings in pass-through for the sheetmetal tins.
