You want a real, young, political star from Illinois? Look no further than Aaron Schock. At this point, it looks pretty certain that he will be taking Ray LaHood's seat in Congress when he retires.
It's kind of too bad, because he has a lot of good work left to do in the state legislature...

Quote:
PEORIA -- First, Aaron Schock was too young for the school board. Then he was too young for the state legislature. Soon people might be complaining that the 26-year-old is too young for Congress.
Schock won the Republican nomination Tuesday for the 18th Congressional District, which has its hub in Peoria but also includes the northern parts of Decatur and Macon County, all of Logan County and parts of Woodford and Tazewell counties.
If he’s elected — he has no Democratic opponent at the moment — Schock would become the youngest member of Congress.

I especially like the fact that he is fighting the perception that Democrats like to put forth that anyone under 30 "has to be" a Democrat. (They say the same thing if you are black, gay, female, hispanic, make under $50,000 a year, or have a blue-collar job. Apparently only white heterosexual males that make more than $50,000 a year, have a white-collar job, and are over 30 are allowed to choose their political affiliation. Everyone else is "born Democrat".
