Chouse,

Having a hard time programming my TEC II. It's not the TEC II, it's my equipment. My old laptop will read from the TEC II in the Monitore Screen, but it gets a Com Error when trying to send a program. I have to wait till school family members aren't using the big computer so I can drag it out.

The TEC II has Bin Files that come with it for example. You can open one of these & edit it to fit your application. The software has a programing wizard to help you with injector turn on time, etc. The Wizard asks you motor size, HP, # of cylinders, # of injectors, injector capcity, etc to help you set up a program.

Sunday, I drug out the big computer for a couple of hours. Played with the timing & injection time on. I have the O2 unactivated but you can still read it in the monitor screen. I told the Wizard 24 lb injectors & am working toward less to get more turn on time. The monitor screen shows lean & not much on time.
I quit wioth the glare & all trying to read the big computer screen. Going to fiddle with my laptop & get it working or get another. The car cranks & runs for short periods.

In the edit mode of the TEC II software, you can set timing acording to RPM and MAP. Injection is set according to MAP & RPM & throttle opening. Engine & intake TEMP is set to adjust as you see fit. Had to edit the timing to get it to fire up the first time. It's about like moving the distributor on an old point type motor, but you do it on the keyboard.

The way I see it you get running then drive in the data logging mode to see how everything is doing & tune from there.

The car the TEC II is in is an early 85 nostart 944. Today, I put the relay & fuse panels up where they belong & was putting switch, turn sig, wiper, steering wheel in before my coon dog got loose & I had to keep him from terrorising the neighborhood. Still plan on belts, got them, new hoses, got them too, & changing brake , motor, & trans fluids. You can see I'm a good ways from driving.

Don't really know if the injectors are good, so plan more troubleshooting.

One thing about the TEC II that is bad with Porsches is you have cut off the switch to recrank. When programming to start this was aggravating because with the way I wired mine, the TEC II has no power when the switch is off. You gety a Com Error & have to retry on the software to get back to the monitor screen.

I choose the TEC II over the SDS because it programmed with a laptop instead of a keypad. I thought if the keypad messed up in the future, I would be in a bind. With a laptop that isn't right I'm in a bind now, but theres lot of computers.
