I don't think they are the best we can muster, rather they are the ones left over that fit into a cozy media bundle. I can honestly say that there are 10,000 better folks available but their lack of media personalities or boring backgrounds preclude them from being 'electable'.
Wouldn't it be something if we elected folks on their ability and background rather than the party spin? At the risk of sounding like a technocrat, I would rather establish performance standards that a POTUS has to hit then go through a ranking system. Only after they have been vetted does the interview process begin in the form of Q/A. Screw the da-baits. They are media fodder anyway...
