Well, you either believe in capitalism or ya don't...
We used to make nothing (worthwhile) in the US (not counting log cabins and some really rude furniture like benches). we sent raw products out to buy anything amnf'd. After a century or so we emerged as the manf. stronghold of the world. Not always in quality but we outproduced the Germans like crazy in WWII.
Now, people in other countries can manf. with really low wages. Add to that robotics (much more adv. in Japan) and the fact that no one else in the civilized world has to pay healthcare benefits directly, since their govts. take care of it, and you have a country that is just not very competitive at manf. overall.
So, do we restrain trade to "fix" the problem?? IF you say, yes, please go check your pro-capitalism postings on the OT forum first...
We still lead the world in really high value products and their design. I suspect that will fall too since we are not putting anything into the educational system (and it shows)...
