I think you got that backwards. A 4 cylinder has 4 sparks per two revolutions while an 8 cylinder has 8. At 1000 RPM the coil in the four would be sparking 2000 time a minute while the 8 would be sparking 4000 times a minute.

In addition, the new hype in performance upgrading these day is geared around imports with the manufactures following suit in designing products for whats in demand.
