The key word is "extreme". As Nostatic stated above, it hasn't been liberals/conservatives that get banned, it has been people who have repeatedly been very caustic. Extremely caustic.
I think the mods have done a great job keeping Pelican civil, while allowing everybody the chance to spout off.
