A zillion times cleaner, biggest thing there is a catfish or bass, and I can run my wave runners there all the time without worrying about the saltwater eating up all the wiring etc.
there are lots of places and things to do without going in the ocean. But if that's you thing, go with it. Not for me.
How many times do they close a beach in So Cal because of sewage related bacteria? too often. Way too often. It's always there but most of the time it's within their "acceptable limits. Not mine, theirs.

I don't go out in the SM Bay (almost always Zuma). And the odds of getting seriously hurt are likely WAY higher playing with a wave runner on the river than of getting eaten by a shark in SoCal waters. And as for bacterial counts...let's just say that you might want to look at all aspects of your life and figure out where the bugs really are. But like you say, choices...
As for me I spent another 2 hours out at Zuma today in near perfect conditions. Just a little small, but glassy and hollow even at 1pm. I beat...need coffee.
oh wait, the caffeine will kill me
