[QUOTE=billwagnon;3926627]I thought being a superpower had more to do with manufacturing and export after World War II, and less to do with atrocities.

Silly man....
1. During the CW Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus
2. The "Glorious Little War" with Spain in 1898 was a trumped up war of aggression with the Hearst Newspapers leading the cheer.
3. TR Roosevelt created a revolution to create the country of Panama so that the US could build and own the Pamama canal.
3. The US conducted unrestricted submarine warfare against Japan, Which the Nuremberg Tribunal in 1946 tried to charge German Admiral Karl Doenitz for the same of crime of his Submarine campaign in the Alantic.
4. In March of 1945 the US and British conducted firebombing raids on Dresden which had no strategic or tactical value.
5. The Americans and British didn't bomb Ausewitz or even the rail lines leading there even though they had intelligence of what the Germans were up to. Which caused at the least 100,000's of additional deaths.
6. Let us not even consider Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Lets just leave it that the US was able to read the Japanese code and knew that they just needed a guarntee that the Emperor would be allowed to continue to surrender. Something the American Caesar MC Arthur later conceded anyway.
