What is the trick to remove the steering column on an SWB 911?

I am restoring the trunk in my '67 and for the life of me cannot figure out how to remove the steering column and support bar. I did manage to move it enough to get my work done but what a PITA!

There is a big clamp just behind the turn signal/wiper switches and then a retaining pin/washer under that...which have all been removed. Also removed the hardware holding the support in the trunk as well as the interim steering rod that goes to the steering rack. I can get all sorts of movement but the dang thing won't come out.

Thoughts, ideas?
