My Choc lab killed this little guy last summer at our house in NC. She thought she was doing good picking it up and carrying it to me breaking its back in the process. The kids were heartbroken but understood the dog did not know what it even did.
They have an instinct to retrieve small animals picking them up and carrying them around.
