I did a similar project to Don Plumley's.
Less than $20 and quite a bit easier.
Bought the same center vent that Kuehl uses on ebay for $9. (Theirs w/ the duct is $140). It had some chrome paint on it that came off with a pick eraser.
For a duct I used (free if you eat salad and like Paul Neuman) a "Newman's Own" plastic salad dressing bottle. Empty. Remove label. Wash.
Cut off the top inch or so (fits perfectly over the bowtie hole), and the bottom half inch (fits perfectly over the back of the aforementioned vent).
Paint the outside of the bottle satin black (Rust-oleum)
Slide the bottle over the bowtie hole, and the back of the vent. Put a small dab of silicone sealant on the bottom of the vent and rest it on the top of the console. Don't touch for 12 hours.
Adjustable, closeable center vent that puts out huge air.
