I figured I would come to the world's central suppository of knowledge and ask if anyone can recommend a good carry on bag - expected dimensions 21 x 14 x 9 or close to thereabouts. Characteristics as follows:

1. Lightweight (maximum 10 lbs, more like 8 lbs) empty. Less would be very nice.
2. NOt too flashy, I go through too many places where nice people want to take my nice shiny stuff from me. Ballistic nylon is just fine
3. Must hold a laptop, preferably in a removable pouch that I can take out and use as a separate case when I am at the destination.
4. Outside travel document pocket, easy to get to
5. Interior design, minimum of 1 mesh retainer system for holding down my nicely packed clothes. Two would be nice to separate
6. Built in water resistant cosmetics container.
7. Retainable dirty clothes bag. I have seen one where there is a nice, washable bag that has its own means of retention. Idea is you lock it on the bottom and then can wash the whole thing when you get home.
8. Must have rollers and extensible handle, indifferent as to number of wheels greater than 2.
9. External pocket capable of holding a decently sized book and a few accessories. Ideally I only have to grab one compartment to get my book, Bose canceling headphones and minor stuff.
10. I would be over the moon if the wretched thing could also be fitted as a backpack by attaching straps.
11 Laptop must be accessible without needing to open the compartment that holds the clothes and my wife's see through blouse's and matching sheer lingerie.
Price range is less than $300, ideal colour is blend in burgundy or under the radar green

Feel free to add additional capabilities if you see fit....but experienced international travellers experience is most welcome.
