How many miles were on the engine since the shop rebuilt it?
I'm curious to know whether the piston kissing the valve was a result of the rod bearing wearing out or loose rod bolts. Did you have an over-rev?
You'll have to disassemble the left bank to get to the rod bolts for No. 5, unless I'm missing something.
