Believe it or not there is a formula somewhere, although I haven't seen it for years. The formula takes into account the length of extension versus original torque specification. Perhaps in this brave new world of disposable goods and cost versus quality manufacturing tolerances it has fallen by the wayside.
Seems at least an annual or every six-month check of critical fasteners should be as routine as our obsession with oil changes.
