It does have an engine, doesn't it?
No, there's no engine. You just stick your feet through the rust holes in the floor pan and paddle along like Fred Flintstone, making appropriate engine noises.

Actually, the engine is a very close cousin to a 906 engine. It's a 2 litre, with high compression, big valves and fairly radical cam timing, twin plugs and 46mm Weber carbs. The exhaust is a pair of megaphones, although a rally muffler was available. It will make in the neighborhood of 200-210 hp and revs to around 8k, or so. There are lots of special parts in it, as it is more of a race motor than a street motor. It will give a 930 all it wants, in a straight line.

A great deal of parts on a factory GT are different from a normal 914-6. The fuel system, oil system, suspension, brakes, interior, bodywork, yada, yada, yada, are all different. As an example, what look like S calipers on the front were often 908 calipers, which were wider to accomodate thicker pads and had quick release pad change hardware. Not something the average guy would notice just walking around the car.

Here's a page with photos of the engine, taken from the link I posted. It shows the car when Howard owned it:
