yep, things are shifting. i currently draw from a group that includes people in india, thailand, finland, england, australia and other exotic places like florida, wisconsin and illinois.

each of them have basically the same skills, yet vastly different costs-per-hour, from a low of $50 to a high of $175.

the people i work with that are on the lower end of the cost-per-hour scale are currently very, very busy...even the $50 guy is raising his rate to $75 to try to ward off some work and get family time.

on the other hand, those high end guys in countries like florida, wisconsin and illinois aren't nearly as busy and they're giving me "breaks" on projects.

in a while, don't know how long, i'm guessing that we'll find some balanced mid-point. i doubt it will ever be a common value (because cost of living varies so much), but right now it seems like the usa folks are doing some needed belt tightening, while in some other parts of the world, they're opening that belt up a notch, because they're starting to get a more "balanced" meal/wage.

recent observation from watching the video: i don't have a gardener, but the next door neighbor has a weekly crew that just bought their second new truck in three months. a few months ago a different gardener bought the house on the corner. around here it seems to be a pretty stable and profitable business. the video is very creative, and it just might have more truth to it than we think!
