The center does swap, the wheels do not always swap, even on 914s there is a early and late wheel. The early ones have a flush mount on the mating surface, the later ones have lip on the inner part at the splines, while they will bolt up you will notice a gapping change between the plastic cover on the wheel and the ignition housing. Most 911s wheels I have seen have the lip like your '74.
