Wow...deja vu. I'm doing exactly the same here in the mountains of North Carolina.
The last two days have been spent under the car. I'm stripping the bottom of the pans to bare metal. It's not easy, but the results are good.
All the old undercoating is coming out. I coated the bottom with Aircraft Stripper. Thankfully, I found it in spray cans; it went on really easy.
Two coats, 24 hours apart, loosened up the old undercoating. Using two metal scrapers and a screwdriver, I've managed to clean one pan to gleaming metal.
I've used Naval Jelly on the clean pans to take care of any surface rust. I'll apply a second coat today, then clean the surface and paint with POR-15.
I'll post some photos later today.
