Replacing the 2.7 case w/ aluminum

I took my car to the wrench to get an assessment of what needed to be done to the engine as a part of an entire "non purist" restoration of the car. The best way to say what I want is that I am pursuing a brand new 1974 911 Carrera Targa that has all the 2.7 liter problems solved.

He suggested the use of an earlier 911 aluminium case. He has done this several times to bulletproof a 2.7 liter. He said it takes some machining but is otherwise pretty simple.

I asked about re-using the magnesium case and he said that I would only be delaying the ineveditable, as I was suggesting re-installing a 28 year old case that had the cards stacked against it in 1974. The car currently has webbers and he also suggested going back to CIS.

What does everyone think? Would the aluminium case solve the problem once and for all. Would it hurt the re-sale of this car to a purist? Any suggestions on fixing the magnisium case?
