Mike-
Yes, I'm going to try to make it to Kurt's on Sat. That is also the date of the next BMW club autox at Qualcomm, but I think I'm going to skip it. I've been driving almost every weekend since Xmas, and I need a break to get the car ready for the CA Festival of Speed at Fontana on the 17th (and to get some of the backlog of "honey-do's" done at home).
There's also an SCCA practice autox at the Q that day which I would normally choose to run over the BMW club event, since it is cheaper and only requires a 1/2-day committment of time instead of all day, and I can run my Formula Ford in SCCA without the tech guys freaking out, like the Porsche and BMW clubs do when an open wheel car pulls into line. I have been finding the Formula Ford to be a blast in autocrossing, making my Porsche feel sluggish when I get back in it.
As far as tires go, in the first BMW event I went to, I drove the car down to the stadium on my DOT legal Kumho V700s and ran. I lost by .5 seconds to the WRX, so the next time I took the trailer and ran Goodyear slicks and beat everybody. The next time I ran the slicks again, but they were starting to go away by the end (too many heat cycles) and didn't have the same grip, plus I made a few mistakes on the timed runs, and let a couple BMWs beat me.
The Kumhos are 245/45-16 F and 265/45-16 R, on 8 & 9" Fuchs, and the Goodyears were 9 x 23 x 15" Sports Car Specials in 210 compound on 7" rims both F & R.
C'ya,
TT
