The front break down..

7J = width
17H2 = diameter
ET55 = offset , the LT48 marking on the rear denotes the same thing

The 986 is a Boxster prefix part #, though i have no idea what those were actually used on..if i had to guess its actually from the newer 987 Boxster but im really not sure.

They will however fit your late offset '88 no problem. As a rule of thumb, you can use most wheels with an offset of 55 +/- 10mm or so roughly. You have to take into consideration the width of the wheels also.. 10's are about the max you can fit on the font and 11's about the max on the rear. Tire size also has alot to do with that also.
