I went to the Boxster Summit in Blowing Rock, NC a couple of years ago and Pedro did the emergency trunk release hack. Very simple...

Take the right headlight out by pulling the carpet back and exposing the latch that secures it.
Reach inside the void and find the cable. Unwind it and snake it down to the tow attachment point on the front bumper. Wrap it around the support and leave it there.
Replace the headlight.
Next time you need to pop the trunk pry back the cover of the tow hook and you can pull it from there !
