I took some 1 inch strips of metal and replaced the bad metal to get a good surface to mount to. How was I going to lineup the mounts so the car didn't drive down the road with a dog leg. A fellow pelicanite post a great diagram with dimensions

I only had one good point to start with that was the transmission mounts the bolts were still in place and good. I drilled a small indention in the center of the bolts just enough for an awl to sit. I took a piece of L metal about 8' long and welded a awl to the end sticking up about 2". I took a piece of L metal about 3" long and welded another awl to it. With a window lock I could adjust the length of my scribe and get my measurement down to the 64th. With a piece of shelf board I premeasured all my lengths. I could set my scribe to the exact length and start measuring.
