Mine is an 89 911 and the dash can be removed with the windscreen in. I think you'll find that if the demister steel vent near the windshield (on the inside) is one long piece and not two separate parts then once you unscrew it you'll see that it can be done.
As for fit I replaced mine with a later dash from either a 964 or it could have been out of a 993. (See end caps in photo).
In one of the photos you can see the piece of leather (arrowed) which covers the edges of the dash board. This is a sign of the later dash. The older versions tuck deeply under the windscreen rubber.
In the other photo you can see (arrowed) the unusual end caps in the dash which make me think it's from a later model.
Anyone out there know what their significance is?
By the way, the car was a German delivery ROW left hand drive which I converted to right hand drive, before you start scratching your heads at the photos.
