What do you think the cost range will be in todays dollars?
I dont know about the Cup Car comparison, I am thinking they save nothing but the case and maybe the heads on those? New Crank, Rods, Pistons, cams, valves etc? Maybe thats not right.
For a street occasional DE car you could probably re-use a lot more stuff.
What say ye?

I don't know, we might all be driving hydrogen fuel cell Porsches by then
But, the engine is based off of the '98 GT1 engine, which uses the same case as the '94 Turbo 3.6, but with water-cooled heads. I would say it's safe to assume there will be support for the motor. But with a 180K miles, the "cheaply engineered", "planned obsolescence" interior will haven fallen apart.
The major components in the drivetrain / suspension on these cars are still built solid as a rock, it's just all the other ***** that I'd be worried about.
I think a basic rebuild runs between 18 and 25K on that particular motor. If you want to start swapping in cup car parts and doing all kinds of fancy machining and porting, and then getting someone to come and tune it, you're probably near that $40K figure kenikh is talking about.
